Stuart Hardy writes in his article for South African IT magazine IT Web that MPLS is dead because users are accessing their business applications from some kind of cloud infrastructure, or from a SaaS platform. He predicts that software-defined WANs are going to change this scenario. In the article it is also claimed that if you can use a pair of DSL lines, which are increasing in speed from 50 to 100 mb/s, then you could use 4G or 5G connectivity. The argument for this approach is that will drive down the cost of your WAN and allow you to do more with your branch and remote offices. But will it improve cost efficiencies?
