To be effective your disaster recovery and business continuity solutions need to be housed far away from your base, but this can cause problems with latency.
Disasters can strike at any time. They may be caused by human error, cyber-attacks or by natural disasters such as earthquakes, fires, floods and hurricanes. Even so it’s quite tempting to sit back and relax, to not worry about the consequences of these upon one’s business –perhaps for cost reasons, but investments in business continuity are like an insurance policy. Last year, the UK government’s Cabinet Office outlined what constitutes ‘Cloud security principles’ in a guidance document published on 14th August 2014. These principles involve the protection of data in transit, asset protection such as customer data, a need to create some level of separation between customers in order to ensure that a compromised customer account won’t affect the service or the data of another customer, the need to develop a governance framework, and the screening of Managed Service Provider (MSP) or Cloud Service Provider (CSP) staff, to name a few areas.
